Phase II of Centrum Południe received LEED certificate at the highest level
The second phase of Centrum Południe, Skanska's largest office complex in Wrocław, received a LEED certificate at the highest level - Platinum. The LEED system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, during the certification process considers various aspects that determine the sustainable nature of the building, including not only the building itself, but also the land on which it is located and its surroundings.Issues such as energy and water consumption, the use of building materials from recycling and management of external spaces with the use of greenery are assessed. Achieving the Platinum level in LEED certification is a testament to the exceptional effectiveness of the solutions used in Centrum Południe and their positive impact on the environment. Almost 25% of the total surface area of the complex is open area with green areas, planned on the basis of a special ecological report and biodiversity assessment. This document takes into account local and regional terrain conditions, assesses vegetation and animals inhabiting the area, and also contains assumptions regarding activities supporting local biodiversity. It is also worth mentioning the specially designed facade, which maintains the proper proportions between glazed and non-glazed surfaces. This enables maximum use of natural light while minimizing interior heating and increasing the energy efficiency of the building. Water savings, on the other hand, are the result of using appropriate fixtures, a system for collecting rainwater and gray water, and planting plants that do not require frequent watering.LEED certification also takes into account the location, access to transport infrastructure and outdoor areas of the office building. In the case of Centrum Południe, these areas were designed with the local community in mind, including its active participation.
